Can I install Ikea flooring in a rented apartment?

Dannie Briseno: Rented apartment is not your permanent residence.Suppose you install a wood floor which is very expensive in the house and after some days your house owner says you to leave the home then what can you do?So it is not a good idea to install lkea flooring in rented apartment.

Stevie Kizziar: Thanks, Pamela, RK, and TrekkerScout! I'm looking for a way to respond individually on here but couldnt't find it so am responding in "Additional Details" to your Answers...I was wondering if new carpeting IS cheaper than resurfacing the old hardwood underneath. Is that usually the consensus that others would agree with? I actually don't think the owner would even notice since he is never here, and I've been here longer than he's owned the building. In fact, all the apartments now get renovated when an old tenant moves out, so they are almost all hardwood floors now. I am one of the last tenants to still have a carpet, so they are going to tear it out anyway. ! As for the carpet, it may be more than cosmetic and has been rained on (literally - my ceiling has leaks) and smells like mold/mildew. My allergies have gotten worse over these years and a neighbor insisted it was the carpet. Also, it was supposed to be replaced before I moved in, but I was ...Show more

Mayola Sylva: Your cheapest option is new carpet, and one your landlord would probably not notice.

Otto Lingafelt: If the carpet is really moldy from a leak it is his responsibility to take care of damage caused by problem with the building. If it's causing you problems you could have a doctor sign something saying that. If the carpet gets removed DON'T be there when they take it out or it could make you feel sicker as they handle it.

Melvina Bieri: While you are a tenant, the landlord is not responsible for making cosmetic fixes. This includes replacement of worn carpeting. If you intend to stay for an extended period of time, you can pay for the repl! acement of the flooring yourself.Floating laminate floors (suc! h as IKEA click-lock) cannot be installed over carpeting. The carpeting must be removes and the floor cleaned before laminate of any kind can be installed. If the hardwood flooring under the carpet is in relatively good condition (free of rot and heavy staining), then it may be cost beneficial to have the floor resurfaced. Carpet padding glue is not an issue when resurfacing a hardwood floor. If you decide on laminate flooring, you should expect the flooring to be a permanent installation. It becomes increasingly unfeasible to remove laminate flooring in an attempt to salvage the laminate as time goes by, especially after a few years of installation. If you move, the landlord may want the apartment returned in the same state as when it was rented. This may include reinstalling carpet in those areas where carpet was previously installed at your expense. However, you may be able to mitigate this expense if you document (with photographs) the condition of the carpeting p! rior to removal. The landlord may even be willing to forgo the carpet replacement charges if the work you do is acceptable to him....Show more

Blythe Noreiga: you can't do that unless the landlord says you can. you cannot put any kind of flooring over carpet. you will need to pull up the carpet to do any floor. you can get laminate flooring with attachedunderlayment for about 25 to 29 dollars a box at Sam's Club. it just snaps together and is good floor and easy to keep clean you can lay it over the wood floor after you pull the carpet. see if the landlord will let you put new floors in and take the cost off your rent....Show more

Kris Otuafi: As a landlord, I'd be happy to get a new floor for free! Be careful though, you just might improve the value of your apt and get a rent increase.Allure flooring is very nice, I would have it done by a pro though.

Bryant Pillitteri: I am definite they ought to be teenagers like 17 or 18 years ancient and just now exp! loring life! I'd simply purchase ear plugs or a collection of headphone! s and listen to tune or put on the earplugs as I doubt they will be extra quiet for those who communicate to them in regards to the noise traumatic your sleep. Are trying the earplugs. If you happen to are living in a basement apartment or any variety of condominium, there is little or nothing you are able to do concerning the noise from tv's or radio's or anything until it's a loopy occasion with extreme noise and you call the police and file a noise grievance. I'm hoping they transfer....Show more
