Christians, what do you think about Gambling?

Jannie Ariola: Giggly Giraffe, thanks for sharing that! Certainly makes you think before you gamble.

Elden Bardach: From your question it sounds like you asked the workers at the church for money. They are hardworking people on small salaries or they are volunteers. Did it occur to you that they cannot afford to "give" you money? In the Catholic Church if our receptionists and office workers gave money to each person that asked, they would be simply broke. But if you sincerely wanted help AND to help yourself they would refer you to a Catholic Charities office where they are set up to help you get on your feet. Where I work we have people come in on a regular basis asking for money. When we give money to a person, they usually come back asking for more. It is hard to determine when a person really needs money vs when they just want money for drugs. So try not to be so angry about this, why not try to join a church family where you give your time and talent. Your c! harity will be returned to you again and again....Show more

Alvaro Oare: Amen, ELM!!! Way to break it down to some basic biblical principles for us.

Shelley Stevens: Its interesting to watch and hear people from several religious backgrounds arguing about which god is real and which is fake. It seems everybody is going to hell and everybody is going to heaven which really can not be true

Joan Stavropoulos: Faith, great website. Thanks!!!

Erica Bottaro: United Way is a major, but they've had their scandals in the last 15 yrs or so.Catholic Charities is another.Funny you said the Mega Church. In Cleveland Ohio, they give you gas cards as an incentive to come to church....Show more

Lino Cawthorne: I belong to a "world wide mega church" (though I wouldn't call it that), the Catholic Church, and I go to the downtown parish. Our pastor is inundated with requests for cash. He simply can't do it. We are a poor parish -- lots of elderly people, people o! n government assistance, people barely making ends meet. To be! honest, he has trouble paying the electric bill sometimes. And he sacrifices a lot. I know he sits out on his porch on sweltering summer nights because he can't afford to run the AC in his little residence. So people come ask him for money, $5 for gas or $5 for a meal or $20 for a bus ticket back home. And he really doesn't have it. He usually gives them a business card of an agency that CAN help them out, or he'll call the Saint Vincent dePaul Society to see if somebody can come down to give the person a ride or bring them a bag of groceries or something like that.So...I don't know the situation of the church you approached, but neither do you. It really is possible that they didn't have any money to give you. It doesn't matter how much money you THINK the church has. Just because it's part of a huge organization doesn't mean there is money at THAT location. And believe me, they get asked all the time. There are people who have no interest in God, no interest in the Church! , no interest in contributing in any way -- they are just takers and they just want $$$ when they need it with no intention of giving anything back.I know it's super tough for you as a single mother, but why didn't you call your own church first, instead of going to this super mega church? Why didn't you choose an apartment on the bus line or within walking distance to your job? What are you willing to do to help others so that you can get the help you need in return?...Show more

Geraldo Mccalla: Yeah.

Lynn Melbourne: I HATE GAMBLING.My college sweet-heart moved to Vegas ... Vegas ate him up without a burp (metaphorically speaking). Then my best guy buddy moved to Vegas & yep ... destroyed. Then I dated a recovering Gambler. He actually seems to be recovered, but his bankrupcy made our relationship stressful (7 year event that bankrupcy). NO I didn't see him sucome to gambling, but I was there for the recovery ... and it SUCKED.Now my baby sisters datting a man ! who appears to be addicted to internet gambling.I HATE GAMBLING!!!Hypoc! rite me .... I do endulge in the Lottery (blush).Dunno what Jesus say's about it ... but I say IT SUCKS!!!...Show more

Donita Desjardin: I hate gambling but I hated it before I became a Christian. I have an aunt who lost her house and everything to gambling. I have an uncle who stole money from my grandmother to pay off a loan shark due to gambling. It's an evil, horrible thing.

Tomi Vauters: God is homosexual and Jesus is pro-choice

Wilfredo Muldoon: 'Cuz if they gave people like you and me money, they wouldn't be able to put people like Robert Schuller in a multi-room mansion and fly him there in a private jet from his luxury yacht in the Carribean twice a month! And somebody gotta pay off his many girlfriends...

Vince Delarge: I know I often have to refer to Catholic Charities or the St Vincent de Paul Society- except those who see every church as an avenue to dump money into I have agreed with the answers. For all of you against the church-Ca! n you name the first organization to Miami after Andrew for help- Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (yes the umbrella under a red cross dispatch but the church was there first)how about Missouri, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida more than a dozen times- it is almost always the church- Catholic Social Services, Catholic Charities, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief- the go in as red cross unit but receive no financial or little financial support from that organization. It all the little people of that chuch that load those trucks and fix food and give out water- they time take from their jobs to help- So when you are in a natural disaster wait for the government to give you your three MRE's that day and 6 bottles of water and avoid the evil empire the church has created in protest- dont go have the wash your laundry, or take a shower or eat hot food or get medical supplies. Stand your ground....Show more

Kenneth Thuesen: uh, maybe if it's your first month on the internet

!

Gaston Edgcomb: try a small informal church...the one that isnt tryin! g to build its temple up in the sky to meet god....where do you live? say Ky..Ill give you 5 dollars.sometimes the salvation army will help..but you have to get there...what about st. vincent dePaul society..sometimes they go out to ppls homes....Show more

Jesse Pirieda: I have gambled before and really the bible doesn't say much about it except that the roman soldiers did it for Jesus' clothes. The thing I do know is that I want to live in a way that would be pleasing to God. I know that it is a waste of my money to gamble so there are other things that I could do with it than put it into a machine and lose it. I want to know I am handling the stuff of life that God has given me with wisdom. So no, I don't do pools or play the lotto or any of that . If other christians want to gamble it is their business....Show more

Delora Struzzi: Depends on the type of the Muslim involved. Arabs would refuse because they depend on the west in everything.

Betsey M! uehlbach: Like eating, drinking, sex, or most anything else, it can be sinful in excess. In small doses it is morally neutral..

Mickey Isle:

Renay Billiar: i dont gamble - again, because its not wise. no it might not be morally wrong, but it is addictive non the less. In the NT Jesus just doesn't deal with the act but deals with the motive behind the act - the root.- what is gambling? its the attempt to gain things that we did not work to gain. the root is often times greed, covetousness and almost an obessive compulsion to do anything and everything they can do get what they want. i've seen gambling ruin lives of not only those addicted, but their families and friends.- sorry no absolute scripture to back it up - just Godly principles. :)...Show more

Perry Deshazior: and why? Just a little humor. Keep it clean, please !Peace and progress in Spirit and in Truth !

Alisa Kaleiwahea: I sorta wanna play my GameCube, but I can lay in my bed with my iPa! d next to me so this is alright.

Marielle Hedeiros: Hmmmm........! .who said the light bulb was burned-out? You said mainly people change a light bulb because it is burned out. You never said for sure it was! BTW......I am a Christian!

Toby Caswell: The atheist will not change it until there is proof that it actually needs changing. The christian will not change it unless it says somewhere in the bible that god wants them to change it.The Hindu will not change it because he is meditating on it.The Muslim will not change it because it is the will of Allah that it is burnt out....Show more

Tory Clapper: Gambling is not the will of God. There for I will not do so.http://www.christiananswers.net/q-acb/acb-g001.htm...

Maria Bengston: I understand that we have a newcomer.

Coleman Senn: i like gambling.... very cool!

Angelyn Ducas: The Atheist because they refuse to recognize the light .

Frank Gazaway: The typical answer gets changed depending on which group you are a part of.If you are a member of the X reli! gion you might say that Y refuses because they like to be in the dark.

Inell Riesgo: Sadly, people have drained many churches of the desire to help, particularly in metro areas. It seems that too many non-church goers think the church is their personal safety net, so many are reserving charitable funds for their members. It is a policy decision made by churches. Also, the mega churches are more expensive to maintain. Its like people with huge houses. People always assume they have money. They are tied to huge mortgages and never have any extra money. So go to a smaller church. Or check out the organizations which are set up by churches to handle the ministry of outsiders, like the homeless/community shelters/kitchens.Its hard being a single mom, which is why I recommend you find a church you can become a member of. Then you will have a safety net for these kinds of needs....Show more

Blair Abdi: A man on the street would have given you 5. for gas. What is wr! ong with these big religious organizations that they will not help peop! le in need. They are super rich with fleets of jets and cars. That makes me so mad! What is wrong with these people?I thought that is why they collected the big bucks, from people. They are a big selfish money making Pharisees....Show more

Gertrude Darke: a million. It worked on the time. It served a purpose and as society replaced, so did the guidelines. Thats the income of believing God nonetheless calls prophets- they talk for the time they're prophet. undergo in suggestions Peter's suggestion for women to stay silent? that is going into question 2 2. First, no longer holding the priesthood and not being allowed memebership are thoroughly different. women dont carry the priesthood. That doesnt lead them to inferior only because it didnt make blacks inferior. God withheld the priesthood for His very own reasons. think of of the priority slavery grew to become into with attempting to get Utah admitted to the union. It grew to become right into a rather tousled societ! y, human beings used to ridicule mormons for being too on the brink of black contributors by using fact they went to church with them. shall we be happy we live in an afternoon while that isnt a controversy. 3. First, God directs bishops to call human beings. Bishops could make errors- they're human- yet God does understand the persons heart. If the guy has particularly repented of his crimes, it may desire to be a super hazard for him to tutor himself he's triumph over them. Secondly, we dont have pre-college. we've nursery and popular. In the two one in each and every of which there could be different adults around continuously. Nursery in many situations has 4-5 adults counting on type length. popular there are in many situations 2 instructors to a style. There a a lot of issues you could %. aside with the church, even though it comes all the way down to truly basically one ingredient. Is the church real or no longer. it form of feels unlucky you have in no way found out! for your self. in case you spend as a lot time to verify if the though! ts you study are real or why they exceeded off (the church's viewpoint)- you will discover all of them make sense. I doubt you will, yet pray on your father in heaven and ask him if the church is real, interior the call of Jesus christ. If God tells you that's real, is there something that particularly concerns? Does it remember how the e book of mormon grew to become into translated, or that contributors are no longer suited? Does it do no longer forget that polygamy grew to become right into a prepare or that our brothers of african background didnt carry the priesthood? No, if God advised human beings to do those issues how can they be incorrect? Pray to understand the certainty, different than for certainty, it fairly is all only the comments of adult males....Show more

Ervin Overbee: 4HIM, thanks for the input.

May Stands: I am not sure why some Christians are down on it. It may be based on the Roman soldiers throwing lots for Jesus garment. If that is the ! case then I guess we shouldn't use nails either. I would say within moderation. And I have heard some gambling machines are highly addictive. Video lottery or something so I would stay away for sure. And if you have a problem definitely not.

Toya Braskett: Hint: People mainly change a lightbulb because it is burned-out and makes the place darker. But the funniest (and clean) joke will get the 10 points Best Answer !

Madlyn Fallis: A lot of churches don't help people out by giving them cash unless they are parishioners ....it's a policy they have because too many people buy crack with the money...and even when they are parishioners, there are a lot of rules about handing them cash - they go to their homes, they find ways of making the people cut costs (for instance, if they've got a lot of luxury things, they need a different philosophy for spending and budgeting)....at my church (Catholic) in your particular case, if someone is on board to do it, they would hav! e taken you to a gas station to put $5 in your tank...but that's all. ! If you really need help, most likely you can apply to churches for aid...if they are able to help outside of their parish, they will, but they will make demands on your lifestyle and spending....personally, I think you should take your chances with some type of Debtor's Anonymous program, I've heard they are very helpful....just check under "411" and you should find some type of program in your area....Show more

Hwa Waterford: I buy the occasional lottery ticket...mostly as a lark.Gambling though...the energy of it is not very positive...where the lottery doesn't exactly make losers out of those who don't win, gambling on the other hand, does. Gambling can be quite superficial, smothered with arrogance/pride, humiliating, consuming...hardly an example of righteousness......though there's definitely no reason to demonize gamblers...no more than I would demonize a drinker. Ingesting poison in any amount is kind of absurd...but it doesn't make someone a bad person.-Rob..! .Show more

Arnoldo Budzynski: The Christian will pray for the light bulb's recovery. If this does not work, the old light bulb is gently laid to rest and a new one installed. The Muslim thinks the Christian insane and, disliking the dark, swiftly changes the bulb. The Hindu is more relaxed than either of them, not minding the temporary darkness. The old light bulb will soon be reborn in perfect working order, so it would be wrong to change it. Of course, this is all very theoretical. As an atheist I do not believe in light bulbs!...Show more

Karl Jantzen: My wife is Hindu and she is very short. She would tell me to change the light bulb.

Loriann Carrigan: Gambling is evil and many a poor mother and her children went without food heat and clothes, because the father gambled his pay, his holiday pay pawned anything he could get his hands on. The Children suffer all the time Gambling fathers should be jailed for child neglect, anyone responsible for causing ! children to suffer should be jailed.

Donte Hamme: Questioner's qu! ote:-"and makes the place darker."(en-quote)A Hindu will refuse.--A Hindu would feel that he/she can not change a bulb in a dark place, because it is likely tat he/she might get eletrocuted

Arnoldo Budzynski: The act of 'throwing lots' was how the replacements of both Judus and Jesus were picked. Judus was replaced by Botholemew and Jesus was replaced by Phillip who by the way was the first Christian killed by the actions of the anti-Christ.We ourselves gamble everyday when we don't trust Gods love and instead call him a sacrifice.

Johnnie Pummill: That makes me furious and the bible does not say anywhere that God helps those who help themselves. That was by men.The bible says just the oposite. The man who said that needs to read his bible.(Matthew 25:34-26:2) 34 “Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, YOU who have been blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for YOU from the founding of the world. 35 For I became hungry and YOU ! gave me something to eat; I got thirsty and YOU gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and YOU received me hospitably; 36 naked, and YOU clothed me. I fell sick and YOU looked after me. I was in prison and YOU came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous ones will answer him with the words, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty, and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and receive you hospitably, or naked, and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to you?’ 40 And in reply the king will say to them, ‘Truly I say to YOU, To the extent that YOU did it to one of the least of these my brothers, YOU did it to me.’ 41 “Then he will say, in turn, to those on his left, ‘Be on YOUR way from me, YOU who have been cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. 42 For I became hungry, but YOU gave me nothing to eat, and I got thirsty, but YOU gave me nothing to drink. 43 I wa! s a stranger, but YOU did not receive me hospitably; naked, but YOU did! not clothe me; sick and in prison, but YOU did not look after me.’ 44 Then they also will answer with the words, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them with the words, ‘Truly I say to YOU, To the extent that YOU did not do it to one of these least ones, YOU did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life.” 26 Now when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples: 2 “YOU know that two days . . ....Show more

Inge Mclaurine: Tangible, absolute, unequivocal, verifiable, credible, peer reviewed and irrefutable evidence or it did not happen!

Frederick Mccoach: while i cant quote anything about gambling i personally dont do it, i know people who have lost so much to it and i will never take that risk.

Travis Colomb: Do you think, since it can be ! addictive, that Christians should just stay away from it altogether (even though it may not be morally wrong)?

Erica Bottaro: Why leave out the atheists? They will keep a Scientific Conference for two years and not notice that a theist changed it. They will then spend another 200 years telling everyone that it evolved and theist must prove it.

Truman Biby: I bet you ten bucks that you are going to get a lot of negative answers telling you "Christ is LORD" and like that... *grin*

Marcellus Yoshimori: Yes, I have been to Vegas. I have been in pools at work. I believe that it is a personal choice. If it is something that bothers your conscience or causes someone else to mess up, don't do it. Romans 14th chapter.

Deangelo Marchak: Who cares it is just money!!!Don't hurt your family over it. Don't hurt others around you over it. Don't lose peace if you lose money.

Shaun Rapkowicz: I have a job orientation today, I don't live where theres a bus! are. I don't have a bike. I asked a church down the street from me for! 5 dollars for a little help with gas they said no one have 5 dollars. They are a worldwide mega church. Why don't churches want to help nobody no more? I'm a single mom trying to go to work! Why are these religious people say OH, he will bless you, but they don't try to help us at all and they can help. Anyway, is there a single parent charity out there?...Show more

Tory Clapper: I used to like going to Las Vegas. I thought playing the slots and blackjack was fun. Never really won anything. To me it was just entertainment. I haven't been there in, oh, I'd say about six years now. They call it "sin city", right? At one point I asked myself this question, should a Christian be found in a place nicknamed sin city. No I don't think so. That's my take on it!And I don't gamble anymore either, I don't even buy lottery tickets. If God desires to bless me financially, He can do it when, and if, and how, He chooses. I also asked myself, would I like to see my pastor b! uying a lottery ticket, and the answer is no, I wouldn't. So I don't do it, either....Show more

Ginny Trickett: Yo C, I like that. We should always want to live in such a way that we are pleasing to God, even if we have to choose to obstain from things that might be fun but potentially sinful or dangerous. Thanks for sharing.
