Clemmie Burkleo: Depends where in the world you are.In the Uk the system is as follows :To become a hygienist you must first have nursing qualifications, then do the diploma.To become a dentist you either do the full 5 yr course, or in a few places get entry onto the 4yr course if you have a BSc in a limited range of subjects. Jed Mutone: The other post was from the UK; in the U.S. a hygiene degree is an associate level degree. As a practical matter, the vast majority of students entering dental school have a bachelor's degree. Unless things have changed since my time, you will need at least a year of general chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, a year of biology, a year of physics. These courses will in turn require a year or so of math. It is possible that if you were able to finish all these courses without co! mpleting a bachelors degree you may qualify for admission to a U.S. dental school.
