General care for a ball python?

Joesph Smithmyer: You only need an under the tank heater if you can't keep the temps up high enough. I keep my warm side around 92 and my cool side 75-80 degrees. I like to keep my cool side pretty warm since I breed them and don't want any health issues. I personally wouldn't go under 75, but some people go as low as 70 on the cool side without issues. As for the vines, you don't need them if the snake is eating fine. They are pretty much just a filler so the snake feels more secure. Or, if you want them because you like the look, go for it. I have a ball python care sheet on my website http://www.slitherinsisters.com/ball-python-care.p...I am curious as to what a snake toy would be ;)...Show more

Russel Gajate: None of those things are NECESSARY. It might help, for example, the lights. as long as you have a "day light" (regular bulb) and a "night light" (usually a darker tinted bulb) you should be okay (they both go OVER it)... It would help it stay warmer (since ! you live in Florida though it shouldnt be neccassary) And the vines might help its mood or whatever you'd call it.. Feeling of being in its natural habitat..... As long as you have the lights and a few accessories/toys in the cage the snake should be fine....Show more
