Rosella Figliola: Why should education be free? Thanks, but, no thanks. The government screws everything else up, enough. I want something that when it goes bad, I can say, "Boy! I screwed the pooch on that one, didn't I?". Screw free college education. Get a job, and pay for it like the rest of us.
Jill Thomer: Federal spending on post secondary education has increased from:16.3 billion in 2001to45.3 billion in 2006According the the US census, there are 17 million students attending college or universities in America. At $20,000 per student per year. That would be 340 billion dollars each year to fund free post secondary education in America.Even at $10,000 per student per year, your looking at 170 billion dollars per year to fund free universities. Not considering that College and University enrollment would be alot higher if it were free....Show more
Derrick Smsith: Because if everybody gets it for free, the bar will just be raised. Right now, I have a BS in ! Business Admin, yet the minimum reqmnt is pretty much an MBA. Competition is what drives development. It would be nice if that would work, but I don't see that happening. I see about 4 million going to education and 39.6 billion going to pork projects.
Mohamed Szollosi: The U.S. is actually behind on that issue. Many nations have free universities, and a lot of people use them and a lot of people have a good education because of it who would otherwise be unable to get that education. There is a problem that you still only get students whose parents have enough money to support them while they get that education, because working (in order to support yourself) and studying at the same time is nearly impossible. I think it's so important to have an educated populace that not only should education be free, we should be paying people to get an education (at least, their cost of living)...Show more
Sheree Hipwell: Look, capitolist society, the spoils go to the victo! r. We live by having people compete against eachother from a ! very early age and then as they get older the "winners" compete against eachother for ranks in the job market. While the losers continue to be losers and work for minimum wage. Basically, if you have money you deserve more money, and if you only have a little money then we'll have to take what little you have and give it to a rich person.
Kirk Coolbeth: Good question, since you obviously need it. Your question should read "Why can't THERE be free secondary education?" Their is used when describing multiple person possession - "That is THEIR dog, THEIR house, THEIR car." etc
Barrett Felicia: Last I checked the war was approaching half a trillion dollars, so add a digit. In order to have free higher education it would require a major shift in thinking by a lot of people.
Vernita Robberson: Free college education would just mean $15-$20,000 more for college kids to smoke weed and drink.Um.... I'm trying to find a down side...Oh yeah! Because college educati! on should only be for those people who can afford it or who can earn it (like trhrough scholarships or hard work). It shouldn't be for kids who just 4 more years of high school....Show more
Stanton Degregorio: wow, your right, i did use the wrong "there". im human whoops. well my question stands.
Son Ahlers: Because once you are an adult you need to fend for yourself. Primary education is free because that is supposed to be the basics and you HAVE TO go by law. The government can't force someone to go to school if s/he had to pay for it.
