Process when selling your car...?

Corrina Faro: You should go with the buyer to transfer the title. You're responsible for that car, should they kill someone, until the title is transferred. I like to go to the buyers bank so I know I have a good check, and then to the DMV to transfer the title. If you have to wait a day, get some money down from them.Your dad should go along. The DMV will send out the new title to the buyer. I sold a car years ago without going along to do the transfer. It was never transferred, and I got a call months later from the police telling me to come pick up my wrecked car from along side the road....Show more

Geraldo Mccalla: He has to sign the title, DMV is not necessay. I as buyer would want to do it at theDMV for safety.

Hyman Coren: i own a repair shop, and all he has to do is sign the back of the title on it and fill out the necessary information on it,and the buyer has to do the rest of it,once he signs of on it he is free and clear from it forever, just mak! e sure you make no goofs on the title the dmv wont accept a title that has been altered in any way including an eraser mark on it,,other than that you,ll be ready to sell it,,good luck i hope you get what your asking for it.

Rosie Travino: The title has a spot on the back that you sign it over to the buyer. I always fill out a Bill Of Sale that I have the buyer sign that says that ownership is transferred to them. Also make sure to put that the car is sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. If both the buyer and seller (your dad) sign, date and put the time of sale it will cover you if the title is never transferred.Your dad could go to the Motor Vehicle Dept. to transfer the vehicle with the buyer that way the buyer could get plates to drive the car home.Remember having them pay in cash is always best. Even if they give you a certified bank check call the bank and make sure that the check is good....Show more
