Lana Uliano: You can do so with any remote desktop software, although they all require a server program installed on the other machine. Be aware that unless you have informed the owner /user of the machine you would be breaking the law and risking prison.

Judie Kise: you can use VNC software, but it would need to be installed on the computer you are wanting to view. I believe most if not all VNC applications give some sort of indiator of being connected, like a popup window or an icon on the taskbar.realVNC works great, there's a free one called TightVNC, but I've not set it up before.

Downside is that an icon will be d! isplayed in the taskbar of the computer that you are trying to! monitor and it can easily be closed, shutting down the program.
